What Is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness that uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself.

At the core of naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive focus on utilising natural healing to treat every facet of a patient, and not just the symptoms expressed by them. It addresses root causes of various conditions through a combination of methods.

Naturopathy supports a person to live a healthy lifestyle. The foundations of naturopathy are based on the importance of natural sunlight, clean air, fresh water, unpolluted earth, healthy environment, stress management, ample exercise, and a healthy diet.

Unlike pharmaceutical "medicine", naturopathy uses natural medicine that has little to no side-effects when used correctly.

​Holistic healthcare consists of the following:

  • Spiritual wellbeing

  • Mental wellbeing

  • Physical wellbeing

Practitioners of naturopathic medicine are known as Naturopaths.

​

What naturopaths do:

  • Identify issues: Naturopaths use functional tests to identify biochemical imbalances that may be affecting a patient's health. 

  • ​Create a treatment plan: Naturopaths use a variety of treatments, including diet and lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, massage, and psychotherapy. 

  • Promote healthy living: Naturopaths help patients prevent disease and promote healthy living.

Naturopathy employs a range of non-invasive techniques and these include (but are not limited to):

  • Detoxification

  • Nutrition and dietary advice

  • Herbal medicine

  • Psychotheraphy

  • Physiotherapy – such as massage, Bowen, acupressure, bio-puncture or mechanotherapy

  • Hydrotherapy

  • Kinesiology and integrated bio-dynamics (IBD)
