SEMITISM AND ANTI-SEMITISM

What does “Semitism” mean?

The word Semitism is derived from Semitic, a term historically used to describe a family of languages associated with peoples of the ancient Near East.

Semitic languages belonging to the larger Afro-asiatic language family include:

  • Hebrew — historically associated with the ancient Israelites.

  • Arabic — spoken by Arabs and many other communities, including people of different religions.

  • Aramaic — historically widespread in the Near East and still spoken in some communities.

  • Amharic — a major language of Ethiopia.

  • Tigrinya — spoken primarily in Eritrea and northern Ethiopia.

  • Akkadian — an ancient language used in Mesopotamia.

Semitism is primarily a linguistic and historical classification. Thus anyone who is native, born in a cultural region speaking any these languages is considered a Semite.

Anti-semitism is prejudice, hostility, discrimination, or hatred directed against a Semite. However, the meaning of anti-semitism has been utterly distorted into meaning "hostility toward Jews". Anyone with an ounce of common sense would be able to understand that a Semite does not refer only to Jews, and that not all Jews are Semites.

THE NATION OF ISRAEL VS THE STATE OF ISRAEL

The nation of Israel refers to the race of people called the Hebrews, also known as Israelites, and the 12 Tribes of Israel.

The state of Israel, on the other hand, is a politically manufactured nation by the Zionists.

THE RISE OF ZIONISM

The Balfour Declaration is a statement of British support for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”. It was made in a letter dated November 2, 1917, from Arthur James Balfour, the British foreign secretary, to Lionel Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild (of Tring). How could the British give away the land of another country when it did not belong to them in the first place?

Zionism has faced opposition from its inception. Before Israel gained independence in 1948, some religious Jews opposed Zionism because they believed Judaism forbids a Jewish state in Israel before the coming of the Messiah; some marginal groups, most famously the Neturei Karta, still subscribe to this view. Some secular Jews believed Zionism would harm their ability to assimilate into non-Jewish societies, while many critics, both Jewish and non-Jewish, consider the disenfranchisement of Palestinian Arabs to be an inevitable consequence of asserting a Jewish state in the territory that Jews consider as their homeland. Other critics fundamentally reject the model of the nation-state as inherently prejudicial, and thus oppose all forms of nationalism. Non-Jews have sometimes opposed Zionism as an extension of or mask for antisemitism.

Despite the diversity of Zionism as an ideology, which includes iterations that consider the rights of Palestinians to be fundamental to Zionism’s success, policies carried out by the Israeli government that harm or suppress Palestinians are often conflated by anti-Zionists as representing Zionism as a whole. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a watchdog against antisemitism that also seeks to counter criticism of Israeli policies, considers opposition to Zionism to be misdirected and to have a marginalizing effect on Jews.

In Judaism, the Hebrew word Mashiach (מָשִׁיחַ) means “anointed one.” It refers to the future king or leader whom God will send to bring about the redemption of Israel and a transformed era of peace, justice, and knowledge of God.

According to the Jewish Torah, these are the prophecies related to the coming of the Mashiach:

1. The Messiah will be a descendant of King David

Prophecy: Isaiah 11:1–5; Jeremiah 23:5–6

2. The Jewish people will be gathered from exile

Prophecy: Deuteronomy 30:3–5; Isaiah 11:11–12; Jeremiah 23:7–8

3. The Temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt

Prophecy: Ezekiel 37:24–28; Ezekiel 40–48

4. An era of worldwide peace will begin

Prophecy: Isaiah 2:2–4; Isaiah 11:6–9; Micah 4:1–4

5. A righteous shepherd from David's line will lead Israel

Prophecy: Ezekiel 34:23–24; Ezekiel 37:24–25

6. A ruler associated with Bethlehem will arise

Prophecy: Micah 5:2–5 (numbered Micah 5:1–4 in some translations)

7. The king will come humbly, bringing peace

Prophecy: Zechariah 9:9–10

8. All nations will recognize God

Prophecy: Isaiah 11:9; Isaiah 2:2–4; Zechariah 14:9

What must the Messiah accomplish? The medieval Jewish scholar Maimonides (Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, 1138–1204) provided one of the most influential systematic explanations in Mishneh Torah, Laws of Kings and Wars, chapters 11–12.

According to his framework, the Messiah must:

  • Restore the Davidic monarchy.

  • Rebuild the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

  • Gather the Jewish exiles back to the Land of Israel.

  • Restore the proper religious and national order of Israel.

  • Lead the world toward an era in which people can pursue knowledge of God in peace.

Maimonides also makes an important distinction: the Messiah is not required to overturn the laws of nature or perform supernatural miracles to establish his credentials.

The Zionists are simply making use of certain scriptures to justify their invasion, land-grabbing, and genocide in Palestine.

To explain the scenario, it was like Palestine, being the owner of the house, was forced to give up a room to a stranger. And over time, the stranger began to occupy more and more rooms, to the extent of trying to evict the owner from his own home.

Not satisfied with just Palestine, the State of Israel has ambitions to expand their borders, swallowing regions belonging to other nations, known as the Greater Israel Project.
