What the Triple Gem Is To Us:

The Buddha is like the doctor, the Dhamma is like the medicine, and the Sangha is like the nurse.
No matter how effective the doctor and the medicine is, we must take the medicine ourselves in order to get well.

The Buddha is like the navigator, the Dhamma is like the map, and the Sangha is like the landmarks.
The Buddha may show us the way, but it is ourselves who must walk the path in order to reach the destination.

The Buddha is like the chef, the Dhamma is like the food, and the Sangha is like the waiters.
No matter how delicious the food may be, we must taste the food ourselves in order to know the flavours.

The Buddha is like the gate-keeper, the Dhamma is like the key to the room, and the Sangha is like the usher.
The Buddha may open the door for us, but we must come out of the room in order to enjoy the freedom from Samsara.

The Dhamma is like the moisture in the air - it is everywhere.

The Buddha is like the cloud - it shows you where the moisture is.
The Sangha is like rain - it brings the moisture to you.

The Dhamma is like a seed, the Buddha is like the sun, and the Sangha is like the rain.
It is great fortune for us to be living in the era of a Buddha.
